Walter’s Story
Ski Patrol Pups is a children’s book inspired by Walter, the Patrol Dog from Alpine Meadows. He was born in Wisconsin and was hand selected to train as an Avalanche Search Dog in Lake Tahoe at Alpine Meadows.
He lived an adventurous life and was a true professional at his job, but he always remembered life was about having fun while doing what you love. He was always up for a powder day at the resort or romping around in the snow with his best buds at work.
Walter was also a beloved family dog who always left us laughing. He and his handler Collin were truly best buds, a duo that was meant to be together. They were an incredible search team and loved each other dearly.
Walter passed away in 2020, but not before he left his final mark on the world with one of the best viral videos of the year.

Walter Went Viral!
In the spring of 2020, we couldn’t believe it when a video of Walter loading a chairlift started popping up all over social media. News outlets celebrities, and dog lovers around the world began sharing the joy this video of Walter brought them. We still love seeing it pop up today!
